Travel Advice
Thailand is currently one of the largest destinations in the world for medical travel. In 2008 it is estimated 1.35 million people from abroad received medical treatment in Thailand and this number is expected to grow to over 2 million by 2010. You can be assured the treatment you will receive in Thailand will be excellent.
One of the biggest benefits for choosing to travel abroad to Thailand for surgery is that you can relax and recover on a beautiful tropical island with gorgeous weather, plush and relaxing surroundings. We want you to have a fantastic experience during your stay so to help you achieve this we have put together some advice on travel.
Before you arrive in Thailand your surgeon here will have received and reviewed your medical history as well as any prescription or non prescription drugs you are taking. You will be given advice during your consultation with your surgeon which may include changes in lifestyle and or medication before you leave home. For example, you may be advised not to drink any alcohol or smoke any cigarettes for several days before you travel. As well as following any advice from your surgeon in Thailand you should also contact your local doctor or travel clinic to find out if you need any inoculations before travelling.
Once you have arrived in Thailand we advise you take a few days to relax and acclimatise. During this time you may choose to indulge in some massage which will help to relax your mind and body before surgery. This is good, however we recommend you only have massage before your surgery as massage immediately after surgery can increase the risk of blood clot formation.
Large airlines suggest you should not fly for more than 10 days after major surgery, therefore we advise you to stay and rest for at least 10 days after surgery. If you need to get away sooner after surgery and you are not having major surgery then you can travel as soon as your surgeon has removed your stitches. You will be told when you book your surgery how long it should take before you can have your stitches removed.
Once you have booked your surgery with us you will be assigned your own personal carer from LMI. If you have any further questions about travelling or your surgery this person will be on hand at all times to answer your questions.
We want you to enjoy an inspiring and transformational holiday. Therefore, as well as offering you world renowned medical treatment we have also sourced outstanding accommodation for you to stay in. This combined with our travel advice should make your surgical holiday to Thailand a holiday to remember.
